Your Carbon Footprint

What is a Carbon Footprint, and why does it matter?

As you know, carbon dioxide is thought to be the main contributor of global warming. Yes, carbon dioxide naturally exists in the atmosphere, but the levels added through industry have unduly strained the environment to a point of saturation, thereby super-heating the earth with the excess amounts.

Grid-tied electricity (which your home or building uses enormous amounts of) is typically generated by burning fossil fuels, releasing substantial amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere.

The carbon footprint is a portrayal of the effect your home or building has on the environment in terms of CO2 emissions produced.
For example:
Let's say your home's monthly electricity usage averages 5000 kWh, which means that for the year, your home has used approximately 60,000 kWh of electricity.

This equates to 43 Metric Tons of CO2 your home is responsible for emitting into the atmosphere! This is equivalent to the amount of CO2 produced by over 8 cars for a year, requiring almost 10 acres of pine forest to sequester! (EPA Data)
